Do I have to be a member to borrow books from the Emma?

No, you do not need to be a member, though we encourage all borrowers and library users to become members. It's a small sum of money and you are investing in this small library's future. The Emma is a 503(c)3 nonprofit run entirely by volunteers. There is no charge for most of our programs. We require funding to keep our library functioning. Most of that funding is obtained through grants and gifts. We hope you will choose to make a membership donation to the library.

What holidays do you close for?

The library is closed in observance of the following holidays:
New Year's Eve
New Year's Day
Martin Luther King Day
Presidents Day
Patriots Day
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Columbus Day
Day before and Saturday after Thanksgiving
Christmas Eve
Christmas Day

Can I use my Newburyport Public Library card at the Emma?

The Emma Andrews Library & Community Center no longer has any connection to the Public Library. You must have a separate card to borrow books from the Emma. Obtaining a card is a simple process. Plus you do not actually need a card. When you sign up, you receive a number. If you forget the number, it's easy for our front desk volunteer to look it up.

What are your hours?

See our contact us page or the bottom of this page.

Can I search on what books you have?

We are not keeping a database of our books but our collection is aways being added to and we have something for everyone.

How do get a library card?

Come in and we give you a number. No card is needed.
